I liked the sound of that kelty, that was my second choice. But when I got in it it just didn't feel right to me. Not like that MH, it just felt like home... If I'm thinking of the right one that void is a really nice tent, but I think it was a little too pricey and didn't have all the features I wanted.

Try dropping by the tempe store and asking them if they have one of the pct1s on the shelf. If they do they'll let you set it up on the showfloor. It gives you a better sense of how the tent will go up and come down anyway. That's what I had to do to see the tent before I bought it.

Seemed like there was a potential to get off topic since I brought up the hammock as another potential lightweight shelter with greater comfort and flexibility compared to the tents, and questions started pouring out about the hammock. Since it was merely a suggested alternative, I wanted to move the questions elsewhere, let the tent discussion continue, and address your questions specifically if you had an interest.

I think I'm going to go w/ the Sierra designs Light Year. I like the fact that it has a big "D" door on the front and its about 3 oz lighter, and $20 cheaper. Go figure! Laughing

Gannut, we get off topic here a lot! Its something ya gotta get used to... it used to bother me too, but then the topics are always good news!
So, I have a tent, not sub 3 lb by any means but if you are looking for a durable, inexpensive one I will part with my Eureka Ranier, 2 ppl, 5 lb 8oz
looks like the Apex 2 xta, but has full fly and its blue/white. LOTS of mesh for ventilation and I'll let it go for say... $50. Used but very good shape it retailed for $160
dual d doors
2 poles, 8mm alum.
Hi/Lo venting on doors
full fly
37.5 sq feet
stuffs to gallon size

mary, I used a pepsi can stove for the first time and they are really cool!
at just .4 oz and easy to make you cant go wrong. An ounce of alcohol will boil 2 cups of water in about 4 minutes. cost? about 25 cents

Oh I can dig the old ones up. I figure there is no reason to start a new thread on a tent that's already been discussed.

Yes, that deal was only for last night. REI is having the 12 days to Christmas sale or something like that, a new deal avery day.

It is showing for $119, but you can still take another 20% off of that for today only with coupon code OUTLET25.

You guys actually like that thing? I saw it set up out on the trail one time. Very, VERY saggy! Of course, the person setting it up could have been clueless, but, still, I was not convinced when looking at it that it wouldn't sag a great deal in a heavy rain, and blow around a great deal in a stiff breeze, even if it were set up properly.
