Almost better than a hike on a hot day
I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I think I found something I like better than backpacking in 100+ temps in June/July/August
Backpacking is still my favorite though Ü
Does anybody windsurf? |

Really. I wouldn't have thought. But then I generally do not recreate around lakes. |

Tried it, liked it, even though I spent more time being knocked down than actually moving! I think I'm not going to practice windsurfing anymore though, and instead try my hand at Kite surfing next time. Any of you seen that? _________________ -Dylan Anderson

Actually the day after tempe made the town lake open to windsurfing the maricopa county made some restrictions so right now it is in limbo, but hopefully things will be different soon. But I windsurf and have my own rig and will be going as soon as the weather permits. I would love to give lessons and also have a boat so incase you get out in the middle of Roosevelt lake and the wind dies we can get you back |

the actual term for riding a sailed board in the surf- windsurfing
out here in AZ it would be called sailboarding.
I'll thank Belinda for the idea- once I come home from Antigua in March I can give a report. _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg

Ahhhh... my favorite water sport!!!! For anyone that has the opportunity, you'll love it!! It takes a lot of patience at first, but once you learn the basics, the rest will come with a little practice, and you'll have a great time along the way!!!! There's nothing like putting your board into a plane and skimming the surface... nearly flying, with the sail pulled over you and you're hanging almost parallell to the water!!!! |

Now that sounds like a sport that would fit in perfectly with a life in Michigan. Are the boards expensive? Are they pretty lightweight and easy to transport?

Newer boards are very light and pop up on a plane even in light winds. You can get good deals on complete rigs at this place : http://www.the-house.com/index.html
Prices vary, but a beginner rig can be had pretty inexpensively. |
