Glen, I've been wearing Birkenstock Arizonas for years during warm weather....long before I even thought of moving to The Wonderful Land of AZ Rolling Eyes
That's what made me look to birkenstock for the orthotic; didn't even know if they made one, but went looking and Voila! Think Birkenstock's footbeds are as good as it gets. Would love to own a pair of their hiking boots, but they are Expensive.....notice the capital E!

Well, it's a known fact that your feet get bigger as you get older Razz Bet that's the problem....probably need a half size bigger now.....maybe even a full size bigger Razz ....or more Rolling Eyes

well that can't be the problem...I decided years ago to stop getting older Wink

I think it's more likely due to improper care of my boots... Embarassed ..as Suz reminded me about the water and mud from the 'never ending trail', I recalled how when I got home from that trip I took my boots off and left them in the garage, where they sat and dried for days before I remembered to go brush the mud off....by that time they had shrunk a tad...I wore them again, got them wet and they stretched out a bit, so that now when I put them on they feel pretty comfy...till I walk 5-6 miles then my feet start to hurt. I'll try some insoles or a new footbed and see if that helps.

Be interesting to see the size of your nose after that one! Rolling Eyes

Keep ceder shoe trees in them when you're not wearing them. Helps them hold their shape, keeps toes from turning up, etc. Also good idea to take the insole out to let it and the footbed dry.
Back in the days when I did the "W" thing one of my accounts was a major shoe store. Their buyer said a good pair of shoe trees can nearly double the life of a shoe's upper.

Hoolie I'm wearing the Milano's this summer, basically an Arizona with a heel strap. Very comfortable. I have a pair of Arizona's I wear around the house so I can kick them off an on easily.

I have not been able to find the hiking boots on their site. Not that I need any with the footbeds and the Scarpas with their fine Italian cobbling but I am curious about them.

I've got a pair of Merrel Rangers that I've had for years, they don't even make them anymore...couldn't even guess the number of miles on them....I'd hate to see the day they wear out...

Glen, I bought my blue footbeds on the net from a store in Tucson that I haven't been able to find sice. When they were delivered there was a catalog enclosed that showed their hiking boots. I've since thrown it away, but they really looked good......and over $250 a pair! I do some more searching and see if i cna find that store again.

Found this: http://www.zappos.com/n/es/d/591005859/page/2.html

Hey they are made in Italy too. Not too bad I suppose. I dropped at least a couple of bills on the Scarpas but I really needed a substancial boot to carry a heavy pack while the foot problems still existed and they did the job. The good thing about the blue footbeds is you can choose your boot and use them to great effect. I did use the foam birk footbeds for years and years. They were good until I really needed some more firm substancial support.

I believe I found my footbeds at a place called Michael's Comfort Shoe Center.

I keep thinking the store carried a woman's name as owner and she also had a store in Houston.

I have to get back down to Bisbee one of these days. We have gone a lot of times over the years. I saw Greg Lemond win the Vuelta when it included pros. That man knew how to ride. He let the others get way out there and when there were eight laps to go in the crit, he let it out. Totally blew everyone out of the hills.

I like to walk around the the decaying architecture, take a few photos and check out the eclectic folks.

Too bad about Jonina's. I'll have to ask around next time I'm down there.

Yeah, I still haven't been south of Phoenix. Really need to load the motorhome and head south....visit Tucson's old town, Bisbee, Tombstone, etc.

So I looked up the birk's on the web, there are two blue ones, the healed or the causal????

I stopped in at "Good Feet" here in Ahwatukee today, they'll sell you a pair for $250! But not me. I felt sorry for the folks, looks like they got roped into some kind of franchise deal. The $250 destroyed all credibility in my mind.
