Two good reference materials for GPS and map and compass are GPS Made Easy by Lawrence Letham and Compass and Map Navigator by Michael Hodgson. |

I can also recommend THE ULTIMATE DESERT HANDBOOK (ISBN: 007139303X) as a reference for desert navigation, one of the most thorough available. There is information on using topo maps, choosing and using a good desert compass, GPS receivers, sextants, stellar navigation, nature navigation, reading sign, terrain association, dead reckoning, vehicle navigation, emergency navigation, and more. www.ultimatedeserthandbook.com |
