Doh! You're right! I thought I remembered seeing that one before! I didn't really get a good look at the driver because I was behind him on a 2 lane street (Invergordon).

Long-dormant thread, but as y'all may know, Arizona has gone/is going to a "flat' license plate (non-embossed) like Nevada has. It is basically a 3M sticker stuck to a flat piece of steel. New 'personalized' orders are currently being made with this new flat plate and starting January, 2008 all standard plates will be of the 'flat' variety too. I'm unsure about the myriad specialty plates as yet... stay tuned.

In associated news, automated license-plate-readers are being installed in some police cars in Az. (It scans the plate of any car that the cop is following without cause) And the technology is being introduced in other states whereby a microchip (readable by police) is implanted in the license plate itself.

I wonder if this means that we will have to get new ones? I have a specialty plate and a specific letters on mine. Maybe when we renew it will be required to get another plate?

Likely not; as far as I am aware, every license plate now stays with the (former) owner, even when the vehicle is sold.
I renewed a personalized plate last week and received my 2008 sticker (which, as most know, now has the month and year on one sticker) with no mention of 'turning-in' my older, embossed plate.
