I revel in the death lands where the survivors are few and eclectic and the light is ethereal and pure, an impossible beauty.

This is the dead land
This is the cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man's hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.
Is it like this
In death's other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.
- T. S. Eliot, excerpt from THE HOLLOW MEN (1927)

Thought some of you fellow desert wanderers might appreciate some T. S. Eliot and the ethereal light west of here.

Mr. G, your vision here, your choice of poets, and your posts are appreciated!

"We are few and we appreciate the light...". Yes, we are few...

But on this community site, we appreciate "the light"...

Thanks,
JW.

Glen,

As usual, your photography is beyond compare. Absolutely gorgoeus!

T.S. Eliot is one of my personal favorites so your application of that excerpt is so dead on.........

Thanks for sharing the vision

Trish

Hoolie Winston is doing well. He came down with Valley Fever last winter and lost a lot of weight before we figured it out. He was on medication for 5 months and is testing negative now. We didn't take him on hikes for a while. A lot of our hikes are in pretty rugged country like the hike where this photo was shot. I was perched on the side of a very steep hill with loose marble sized gravel. Shocked Lots of cholla awaiting any misstep. Yesterday we went deep in a local canyon with lots of boulder chokes to climb so little short legs had to stay home. It's getting too hot for him now in any case. He can hike all day long in winter but a black dog in summer temps is not good.

I do take him on a good brisk walk every day though.

One breed I have been looking at recently is the Austrailian Blue Heeler. Sort of like Rocky I think except he looks red. Won't do anything about it for years but that looks like an awesome trail dog.

How is your bunch doing?
