Tom: your Gossamer Gear Tent looked impressive. What is your field report for you tent ? I think I am in the market for a 1 person tent -- technology seems to have significantly advanced that I have to survey the market for 1 person shelters again...

Other feedback welcome as well:

My requirements -- 1 person light weight / preferably freestanding or with limited staking.

I just ordered a Black Diamond Firstlight tent. This is a freestanding 2 person tent which gets me under 3#. There is a solo tent, Black Diamond Oneshot, that saves 4 ounces but I think I'll use this one tent for my solo and accompanied adventures. It's due to arrive on 4/2. I'll let you know what I think after setting it up.

The GG "The One" tent is a very light tent with a good amount of room for a one person. It isn't a freestanding tent though. I would have to question durability too, but have been really happy with it so far (as long as the stakes hold).

If you're looking for a real lightweight freestander, I would suggest looking at Henry Shire's Rainbow tent. It makes good use of dual purpose technology. There is also a two-person Double Rainbow.
