It started snowing at about 4 pm, and has been building up here in town although it is too warm, and is melting some, too. But there is about 4 to 6 inches, despite the warmth.

However, we are at "only" 7,000 feet here, and where I usually ski is close to or above 9,000. And it will probably be below freezing the whole time during this storm, so the snow should stick.

Can't wait! Have to wait for the roads to be safe and plowed, so mid-morning or later, depending upon the weather.

I hear the storm was fairly localized. I'll be leaving in a few minutes with my skis to check out some areas.

Ok, so, I found all my duds (gaiters, fleece pants, fleece mittens and mitten covers, special boots, etc.) and put them on, and got the skis out, and put them in the car, and went to the hardware store and bought a can of silicone spray (essential for spring snow if you are using no-wax skis) and to Western Drug for Clif Bars and Clif Shots, and to the gas station for gas, and off I went to Pole Knoll to go skiing. No one in town seemed to know anything about snow depth in either Greer or Alpine.

What a disappointment. I would have been better off skiing in my own backyard! There were big bare spots at Pole Knoll and also further up in the meadows. And the snow was about 2 or 3 inches deep.

Not to lose hope, I turned around, thinking I would now be willing to drive all the way to Williams Valley Ski Area, near Alpine, about 30 miles from my house, to ski there. I stopped at my house on the way through town to call the Alpine Ranger District. The woman on the phone told me we have more snow here in Eagar than they do up there in Alpine!

So, I guess this was the big 2009 Eagar/Springerville snowstorm. It's melting fast, though! It's supposed to be 60 tomorrow and 65 the next day!

Salt River is a-gonna rise! Do you have your rafting reservations yet? Mr. Green

We spent the night in Safford last night. It was really Windy! Mt. Graham got some new snow. I almost camped up there, but we decided with the wind to rough it at Essance of Tranquilty , a quaint little hippie hot spring resort. We spent the night in a cute little tuff shed. It's amazing what can be done with those sheds.
Warm and cozy.

That sounds fun! Did you also go hiking?

I have heard there are a lot of hot springs all around the Safford area. Some are on public land and are popular with the college crowd there. (I imagine those are not too sanitary, however.)

Actually we harvested some wood for my husband's building project. Safford Ranger district allows fuel wood gathering with a permit year round. We took out a few downed trees near Turkey Flat Cabin area. The Mt. Graham area is the only mountain with year round permits.
Talking about hot springs have you ever hiked to Hannah Hotsprings.?

No, not yet! Would like to go sometime. I don't have much free time for multi-day jaunts.

We get a cutting permit up here most years, but it's usually good for only 3 months.
