Don't let my grandmother see this. It's sad to see things like this so close to the holidays and such. I guess you just never know.

A 17-year-old Cottonwood boy plunged to his death while hiking with friends near Sedona, authorities said Friday.

Joshua A. Mullins, a student at Mingus Union High School, fell Thursday from a ledge off the Capitol Butte Trail.

The accident occurred when Joshua tried to join up with two 17-year-old friends who were on an adjacent ledge near the main trail, said Lt. Steve Francis, a Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

"He apparently lost his footing and fell a distance of 20 feet," Francis said.

One of the friends stayed with Joshua and while other ran for help, Francis said.

Sedona firefighters were called and the boy was taken to Verde Valley Medical Center in Cottonwood, where he was pronounced dead.

Y'all be safe out there, alright?
