well I ended up selling that tarp today, so now I have to find a new "favorite item". It might be the Climashield quilt Im going to make. This will be a 32ฐ top quilt for use in my hammock. Combining a JrB underquilt with a 1/4" GG thinlite pad I should be able to sleep down to at least 35ฐ. Im calculating the quilt weight to be close or 14 ounces or under. Its basically like Diane's Marmot Pounder without the zipper or hood. (you dont need these things in a hammock) Marmot Pounder looks like a good bag. The synthetic version of the Atom?
until then, my favorite might be the Petzl e+lite.

Not sure what you are saying sir.

I was reffering to the asterisk * that we all use for a temp symbol.
I just learnt how to do it like this: 30ฐ

If anyone wears a size 10, I've got a pair of Garmont Nasty's that I'll basically give you. They are awesome shoes, but they don't fit me correctly. I ordered them online, and I wore them twice, so I can't return them. There's no resale value in shoes, so if you want them, there yours. Fit medium to low volume feet. Very sticky sole, and comfy insole!

Shoes have found a good new home!

Salomon Puntera GTX. My feet have never been happier or drier despite hiking some pretty muddy and over flowing trails this year. I have the opposite problem you've got Matt, low-top shoes are the only way I can be comfortable on the trail.

I've decided that I am going to give the Garmont Nasty's another try. I'll buy a smaller pair that fits this time.

My BD flicklock trekking poles. I really like the way the flicklocks work and I used them on almost every hike this year. Wow, I didn't buy much gear this year, my wife will be shocked by the small REI dividend I will get. Oh well...
2008 rhymes with "great" so maybe I can make up for it.

My favorite new piece of gear are Sol Socks.

These are fleece socks that have a toe notch to wear with flip-flops. When backpacking, I like to take ultra-lightweight flops (i.e. Teva Mush flops, 5.6 oz) to wear around camp. Sol Socks make wearing these flops quite comfy in cool to cold weather.

Those are pretty sweet, I love flip flops but occasionally don't bring some for that reason.

I ended up finding some Nike Sandals without the toe thing that I really like. Mine are 9 3/4oz though, but thats for a Size 12.

A change of shoes is a must for me whether is at camp or driving home.

Well, I don't buy much gear every year. I use the old stuff until it falls apart, usually. In 2007 I majorly splurged and bought the Garmin GPS 60 Cx. It is awesome, but I still don't know how to do everything on it, and I still need to get myself the topo software. I'm going to get that with my earned income credit tax refund. I also have to get a DVD-ROM reader/writer for my computer in order to use that software! The DVD-ROM reader is a lot cheaper than the topo software! Go figger! I want to be able to make and print out maps of my hikes. (Most of the trails around here are not on the regular paper topo maps.) That is what I bought the Garmin for, and you can't use the highway software for that because it won't let you print anything from a small area, such as an 8-mile loop hike.

I can't say what my favorite piece of gear was, but I know what it wasn't; my Timberland boots. What pieces of junk. Started falling apart the first week I had them. Anyone got recommendations for new boots this year that are under $150?

My favorite thing are my boots. I didn't get them this year...but rather 4 years ago. But still my favorite piece of gear! Asolo Fugitive GTX...they are the perfect boot for my foot!

My favorite piece of gear for 2007 would probably be my Suunto Core watch that I got for Christmas.
