There hasn't been a better year for cross country skiing since I moved here. I went to Pole Knoll yesterday afternoon, near perfect conditions, and almost 3 feet of snow on the ground.

Rentals available at the Sweat Shop in Eagar, at the gas station in Alpine and at Sunrise General Store. About $10 per day.

Speaking of Sunrise Ski Area: Downhill skiing and snowboarding can be dangerous! My boss's husband is on the local Volunteer Fire Dept. and has a radio scanner turned on all the time. He doesn't do ambulance runs, but says there are four to five runs PER DAY for our local White Mountain Ambulance Service to Sunrise, which isn't the only service that goes to Sunrise! I asked, types of injuries? He said broken collarbones, broken legs, head injuries, broken arms. Every single day. Think about it. The ambulance goes there (25 miles one way), picks up patient, returns to Springerville Hospital, gets another call, goes back to Sunrise again. All day long. Do you really want to be stuck in Springerville Hospital with a head injury? Waiting for a helicopter to come get you? I didn't think so.

Cross country skiing and snow shoeing are the real wilderness lover's snow sports!

Charleston is getting pounded, again, and will be through Monday. It is getting to be as deep as it was 3 years ago when we had record pre-cip. Getting closer to spring I'm sure there is going to be a fantastic bloom this year.

I'd love to sit this out at Power's Garden, crank up the stove and watch it come down, worry about getting out sometime, oh, in a week or so.
