I hear about horrible deaths all the time here in Colorado, But never have been in contact with any of them untill now. It's strange when it hits so close to home. This is really shocking!!!!!

I've enjoyed pictures of his adventures....he was so full of life. Such a tragic story. He will be missed by many.

Those SAR folks are amazing.
Sending my thoughts and prayers to his girlfriend, friends and family.

This is a sad story. By looking at the pictures it is like he belonged to the mountains, so full of life. A great loss to many indeed.

Thanks, Tim, for posting the SAR report. However, about half the photos didn't open on my system. Anyone else have this problem?

Sympathies with his friends and family. He seemed a fun and colourful character.

Awhile ago My wife and I were talking about people dying in the mountains and I think She said it best. Aplying what she said to Talus Monkey's death.

"He died doing what He loved doing the most. Better do die doing what you love then to die inside and not live, not doing the things you love to do most. To not do what you like doing the most is not living at all. He lived life to his fullest. Because of this he truely lived."

I cannot say I feel sorry for him for dying on the mountain, because he died doing what he truely loved. The people I feel sorry for are those who have to greive his lost. There is almost no better way to die.

Sorry to hear about the bad news. I feel for his family and loved ones as well as his hiking partner. He/she has got to be feeling really down knowing that you did everything right but the outcome was so disappointing. If any of you know Talus Monkey’s hiking partner, he/she could use some support right a long with the family members.

Sad Always sad to hear about something like this, especially when it comes from a member of your own community (online, in this case). As many have said, at least he died doing what he loved. My thoughts are with him and his family/friends.

I do know Caroline, his hiking partner, fairly well and will see her in Colorado this weekend. I can't even begin to imagine what she's going through, but she will have a heck of a lot support. The services are on Saturday in Denver and it will be a difficult day.

But you guys said it - he went out doing what he loved to do. There are dozens of hilarious stories about the guy: heck, half the pictures that 9News in Denver used from my album had to be photo-shopped to a) remove the rum bottle from his hand in the picture, and/or b) the edit out the "14ers Jihad" emblazoned across his hiking shirt. His personality and the sharing of these stunts will make this weekend a little easier. Thanks again to all of you for your show of support.

Scott
