oh, thank you..............that was 2 weekends worth of attempts, lots of camera frustrations, a bus load of tourists to wait on and many horrible shots in the process to savor one beauty. It's nice to know that you enjoyed it.
I'm looking for a place to print up a larger size....looks like it might print up nicely in a decent poster size. Any info on that? |

My unprofessional critique:
Love the lighting and the grey sky, it creates a very dramatic mood. If you could squeeze a little more green out of those trees in photoshop without effecting the mood the photo might pop even more? Great composition, I love having something in the foreground on landscapes like the rocks here. It gives the photo some depth. One minor problem, it looks like your horizon may be tilted just a degree or two? that's an easy fix in photoshop though. Great photo though, very print worthy.
Costco is the cheapest and does as good of job as any of the fancy labs as they have the same equipment. Walmart has the same equipment too but their staff isn't as well trained in using it.

oh thanks....I wondered if it was tilted.........glad you said something. How large does Costco print pictures? I can do up to 13X19 with an excellent quality here at home on my HP9800.
Resolution is a VERY interesting question.
When I open the folder straight from the card it's showing me an 18m file= 240 resolution with an image size that's 8.5x12.8---shot in RAW.
When I pull the pictures in through iphoto and then into Adobe the resolution is showing as 72 and the image size is much larger---28x42
I don't really understand.....the pictures say RAW in iphoto so Adobe must be doing something. Any ideas? Am I really going to see the difference in a print with those two resolution sizes? |

That's such a nice area to wander around in and follow the creek.
not hard core trekking, but mellow and always beautiful and soothing. |

PX is pixels, DPI is dots per inch and the image size is what it will print at without re-sizing. Thus PX = length or width x DPI.
PX is what comes out of your camera. The other two numbers are calculated by the software you use to open your photo (different softwares default to different DPI values and then calculates the image size from there) and are dependent on the PX.
The resolution is in pixels, so (28"x72 DPI)x(42" x72 DPI) or 2016 x 3024 or 6096384 or 6MP
To get a good quality print you want to be over 150 DPI, so you can print it (2016/150 x 3024/150) or 13" x 20" (at 150dpi). Note: You can upsample the resolution with success and print a little bigger, or just print it bigger and cross your fingers.
This is one of the toughest things for people to understand in digital photography and it's very important when you print large prints. Hopefully I did a decent job of explaining it.
And Costco will print as big as you want!

2 stop neutral density and under exposed by 2 stops. |

Whatever you used the photo looks great. The contrast in amazing. What kind of camera you using? I just got the canon rebel xti. going out to Vegas and the canyon in February can't wait to use it.

Wish I had a better camera with more capabilities, only a simple Kodak and no printshop,except the software it came with. Love using all kinds of filters with my 35, but miss having a darkroom to print.
Time to buy myself a new camera.... Any suggestions, anyone??Ideas? Personal preferences?? |
