Research is showing a connection between vitamin D and the immune response. http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20061111/bob9.asp

So, hiking gives us more UV exposure, more Vit. D, an thus revs up our immune system to fight off infections. Sounds good to me!

(As if I need another reason to take a hike.)
