Oh sounds like fun, I'm not sure what our Blue Springs hike would have been rated but we were close. You should try that one. |

I've been to the rock gym..............where have you been? Come play at fossil with us......looks like we're gearing up for a little rappel. You could get some time in.....it will make that canyon easier if you've tried it before we get there. |

I don't think many people are using the Canyon for climbing except for canyoneering routes and accessing the various buttes. I haven't seen too much good rock there, anyway. I am quite sure there are no sport routes, if by this you mean bolted--the Park Service wouldn't go for that. As for the Indian reservation parts of it--pay 'em enough and sometimes you can get a permit for just about anything. |

I have spoke to people that say there are bolts that were put in by guerrilla climbers and the service usually doesn't go behind and clear them. Once the rock has been cleaned the rock is actually not bad not sandstone but not granite type. There is a web site devoted to the routes but I am not going to pay $$$ for free info. Sorry to be a no show suz but you know the drill with S.O.'s |

I have heard that there is one day a year that a rappel group does get to play in the canyon. I think they pick up litter on the way. There must be a place.
No worries Jason. |

Here's a reference to an interesting book...
http://books.idealo.com/prices/P971088004K0.html
I don't know if it's still available anywhere, but it does describe a number of interesting climbing routes in the Canyon... A fun read! _________________ The world is older and bigger than we are. This is a hard truth for some folks to swallow. —EDWARD ABBEY |

John Annerino's "Hiking The Grand Canyon" talks a little about FA's and routes on some of the prominent towers and buttes. Not much info there, but it's a start. |
