Ok, wasn't very much excitement on this one, heard about it 2nd hand, I think I was in the Galiuros for the call out.
Three young people went to a well known cave near Tuscon (Ok it was Peppersauce); they proceded into an area not highly traveled which is a maze. They proceded to "loop" this area repeatedly not recognizing the way out. They had one pack, they had left two others at the entrance to the maze. They did try to conserve batteries on their lights, and they had told their parents where they were going. Two things they did do right.
Once they did not return the sheriff's office got the call, confirmed the car location and called a SAR. A few cavers went out on it. Pretty uncomplicated at there is no place where you can fall many feet to get hurt. The kids were gotton out about 20 hours after they had gone in, unharmed. One had drunk from a cave pool (yech, high bacteria count in there).
So the moral of the story is just because everyone goes there, it's a party cave, and arrows have actually been attached to the ceiling to show the way in and out, don't take caving lightly. _________________ You can rest when you're dead |
