Just picked this book up.....amazing how many folks think the canyon is just another amusement park and the really idiotic and dangerous things they do there with some of the horrific results of those actions and decisions. Gotta respect Mother Nature! No stupid human tricks here..not much margin for error. Amazing and mind-boggling read. |

I still need to get that book. I'm a bit more intrigued after my own close encounter....diverted by a few of the very talented AZH corp of engineers |

Everytime I've hiked the canyon I've encountered numerous people who hike down too far without being prepared for going back up.

There was a 19 year old girl last week that went missing from her camp at Hermit Rappids, when she left to go to the bathroom in the colorado. They suspect she misjudged the current and ended up drowning.
With as many water related deaths there are in that book I think it need to read "Over The Edge & Down The River". |

You weren't selected because you're smart Suz. Unlike some of these people. Nature will win in the end. Survival of the Fittest. _________________ Happiness is being high on the food chain. |

I don't know, I think it was the other 6 or so people she was with that didn't have "the great view" from thier tent. |

Yup, it was an experience, wasn't it?
Oh, and Suz, if you'd like to check a copy of that book (personally signed by the authors) out of the Prescott Library, just let me know... _________________ The world is older and bigger than we are. This is a hard truth for some folks to swallow. —EDWARD ABBEY |

Over the Edge and Back Again...there's a book waiting to be written....the almosts--
I guess I was nearly "over the edge" and Tim with a few others managed to drag me back...sort of a battle with Mother Nature and natural selection.....the view was great....the storm was bad....without that freak storm I would have been fine on the edge!......I still sort of like the edge....just not fond of the wind anymore....LOL.
Yeah Hank, can you drag that book down with you on Saturday? |

I read that book a few years ago and loved it. I actually knew a guy mentioned in the book - I think he was 12 at the time and one of the other kids he was with got killed; I don't remember the details.
I think it's funny that the most deaths there occur either because of lack of water ie; dehydration (and/or exposure), or else too much water ie; drowning! |

I went to High school with Jamie Padilla, somebody that is in that book. He was in many of my classes from 7th grade on. I was shocked when I heard that he died going fishing at Jack Ass Canyon.
When I first saw that book, I looked him up and saw he's in there.
Look him up, it'll tell his story. I knew him. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!
