On Sunday, there were 400 runners, a perfect day, breezy and perfect temps. Sold a lot of cheetah goodies and had a lot of support.Canine Hikers had a booth as well. Dr. Marker's presentation and speech after the race was hosted by Gentle Strength at 2:30 and was interesting and informative. She single-handedly toop this monumental task on about 30 years ago after going to Afrtica on research and realized the slaughter of the cheetahs had to be stopped. So very true that one person can make a difference!

This is strictly from recall and I may be totally incorrect but is it true these two things: that cheetahs are the fastest animals on legs at burst of speed aproaching 70mph? and is it also true that cheetah populations have been so thin for so long that embreading has been a problem for decades?
Magnificent animals.

They are magnificent and there are breeding problems and yes, they are the fastest animals on earth. They are also non agressive, you can take meat from them and they won't harm you, unlike other big cats. Dr.Marker is doing genome studies to try to eliminate the breeding and genetic defects that have ocurred over time..she is a brilliant and concerned woman; I was honored to have spent time with her..

I had a kinmanship with a wild breed once. I spent several years helping locate and protect small colonies of the Hualapia Vole. Not as magnificent as the cheetah for sure but we got down to 13 of them one year and I understand the passion that can develop under those circumstances.
