The recent fire restrictions have not allowed me to use my dutch oven for baking. I have been using a propane fueled bar-b-que for baking. I place items to be baked on a small baking sheet. I place small flat stones on the grill and place the baking sheet on top of the stones to elevate off of the grill. Close the lid and bake. I also installed a baking thermometer (from Home Depot) on the front lid of the portable bar-b-que.
I found a way to 'bake' with a backpacking stove. I use the old optimus 99 white gas stove. The lid to the whole thing is also the pot (its square). I take the small pot (probably 1/2 quart) from a nesting cook set and it fits just snug inside the square pot. Then I fill the Square part (whats left) with water or sand/gravel. A good layer of tinfoil as a lid and I'm ready to go. Unfortunately the oven space is very small so its not really all that efficient. Its only really good for doing small quantities of biscuits and such. Although I did bake a small (very small) loaf of bread (an oversize roll really). Inneficient but kind of neat.
