I have always gotten by with the cheapo Wal-mart - Kmart type sneaker for everyday use and for hikins... They have always lasted long enough to be worth the $20 or so Id pay for them. Recently however I wore out a pair of those inside of 2 weeks, hiking in the dreamy draw area ( real rocky and steep )

I find myself hiking nearly everyday and need something that is built to last a little longer... I dont wanna spent a million dollars, and I dont wanna have to replace them for at least 6 months.

Any Suggestions?

I wear New Balance cross-training shoes with inserts for light trail hiking (web belt with canteen and shoulder bag) and Redwing boots (the ones made in the USA, some are made in China and they also make Vasque) for backpacking, off trail hiking, nighthiking and hikes with a daypack.

IF you are willing to work the internet & wait a bit; you can land some good hiking boots for about 60-70$. Check the outlets online. Trail running shoes have worked out well for me when I do not have a pack

I really like the "superfeet" insoles in all my footwear. As we age, we may find that more support is required. As Colin noted, Lowa makes a good product. The closeout racks may also offer some value, if you are lucky enough to find your size.

Get a pair of trail running shoes from www.sierratradingpost.com . You should be able to get a decent pair for around $40. Trail running shoes work well for dayhikes and backpacking trips if you don't carry much weight.

Cakewalk, as screwed up as your feet are, first you need a good, custom made pair of orthotics from a sports podiatrist; without those, ain't no pair of shoes at any price gonna hold up for you.
