More information to come, but I just wanted to get this out here before Tom started busting on me.
July's Group hike of the month will be Humphrey's peak. My initial thinking is to get up there Friday evening and hit the trail early Saturday morning. Maybe meet at the trailhead at 8am?
The trail is well used and easy to follow. To the peak it's about 4.5 miles and 3300 feet of elevation gain. The trail starts off in a heavily wooded ponderosa pine forest but slowly climbs out of the trees. The saddle, about 3 miles in, makes a good lunch/break spot and for some people this will also be a good turn around spot. From the saddle to the peak can be pretty grueling if you are not from Flagstaff and there are 3 or 4 false peaks that will disppoint you on the way, but on a clear day the peak is well worth the effort.

I'm planning on taking the motorhome up early Friday July 9. Will probably camp at the same site we used last year.
Directions: take highway 180 out of Flagstaff as if you were driving to the Canyon. Three miles PAST the road into Snowbowl, on the right side of 180, is FR 151. It's a dirt road, but well graded and does not require high clearance. If I can get the campsite we used last year, it's three miles in on FR 151 and 1/4 mile before Hart Prairie. There are plenty of trees for hanging hammocks.
Plan on pot luck Saturday evening at the campsite.

I have to admit, I nearly fell over when I saw you appear at the peak. I was thinking you would leave it for another day when you returned to the saddle before that.
EXCUSE ME???? Okay, I doubted myself too. If it weren't for Mike I never would have made it. I really owe it all to him. |

Who made it to the top?
Not I, says me. But my calf muscles still hurt, does that count?

GB, I think everybody who went for it made it. There were a couple people who were only heading to the saddle, so it's hard to say, exactly. If you haven't bagged it yet, lemme know! JW. |

I had an awesome time as well. Thanks everyone for a great time. It was a beautiful day for a hike. I am a little sore from the trail running, lol. I look forward to someone writing up a trip report. |
Hey Dude! Thanks again for the carpool hook-up! And of course, you, Brad, Terricita10, and Tim, letting me destroy myself on the final ascent! (Who needs O2, anyway?). Hah-ha! It doesn't get much better! JW. |

No, and not I... but I do have a clear, plastic serving fork that's not mine. I know Tom has two steak-type knives; one w/ a black plastic handle, and the other w/ a wooden handle. I forget whether Todd acquired anything or not. Anyone want to claim these items??? _________________ Blond, James Blond... double "O", uh oh!!

Well, I have two claims but the first is deferring.....so Todd, you win.
When, where and how? Shouldn't refereshments be involved being it's summer and all?!? _________________ All our dreams come true if we have the courage to pursue them...Walt Disney |

I'm not claiming the spoon, but if refreshments are involved I'll be more than happy to supervise the exchange (just to make sure it all goes smoothly, of course!!) _________________ Blond, James Blond... double "O", uh oh!!

I was hoping that guy who took the pic of the six of us at the top would email it, bummer. I have no idea who he was, but he seemed to know Todd, I think, I can't remember. _________________ "In the first place you can't see anything from a car; you've got to get out of the goddamned contraption and walk, better yet crawl, on hands and knees...When traces of blood begin to mark your trail you'll see something, maybe."
