If you were planning to hike Thumb Butte or Granite Mtn, better do it soon.

Forest Service announced they will close both areas on Saturday. Closure will be in place until July.

The reason for the closure is for the Peragrin Falcons nesting...

They're closing the entire areas? Usually they just close Granite Mtn for climbing, but hiking is still allowed.

That's a good reason for closings - Peregrine Falcons are awesome! There's at least one that can be seen often at the Gilbert Riparian Preserve, where I volunteer. Anyone interested in birds should check the place out - it's right behind the library at Greenfield and Guadalupe.

I checked the Prescott National Forest website and didn't find that closure.

They might not have it updated yet.

In all of the years past, it has just been the climbing areas that were closed. The trails remain open..... Hank
