Hoolie I had the same problem in Photoshop 7 :, it is a result of using a high resolution digital camera. To alleviate the problem of not being able to get down to 6k at 80 x 80 pixels, size your photo to 80 x 80 then click on file, then click on save as web. This will probably work for you. It knocked my 80 pxels 14k photo, down to something like a 80 pixel, 4k photo. Give it a try and see if it works. Crazy

That worked slick! Thanks. It is much easier to work with in that mode as well.

I used Photoshop 7 and saved it as a .GIF. That knocked it down to 5K - you figure that at the 80x80 size there won't be much clarity anyway - so just compress the heck out of it.

Here is how you can put a photo in the body of your post....

Hit the " Img " button on the top of your posting screen, then paste in the URL to the picture, the hit the " img " button again.....

Presto! - pics in a post......

Does that work for posting from my hard drive? And should we be worried about the size of the .jpg files? I have seen some reference to "share to web" in some of the photo software I have. Does this decrease the size of the uploaded files? Don't want to use up too much of our allocated space on the server.

When you post a pic, you are not uploading a picture to this site, it simply goes to the URL and grabs it from there.... It will not work from your hard drive. The best thing to do is to upload them to your personal web space included with almost all internet services and link to them from here.

Size is a concern only if its a huge bitmap. Jpg's are usually small and managable. Those who are on a dial-up account will see some delay when photo's are displayed, depending on how many and how big.

Steve, the photo has to be on file somewhere on the internet for the site to have access to the URL. I think "Share to Web" is that part of the software that's set up allowing you to e-mail photos automatically from your photo software. cakewalk or others more familiar with stuff like that will correct me if I'm wrong. As to the ArizonaHikers.com server being overloaded, that's a worry I expressed to GTG and he said it's not currently a problem. Think it depends on just how expansive the site gets. Expansive can get expensive; Mike and GTG have promised me, swearing on "The Precious", Twisted Evil they'll keep us informed if and when that starts becoming a problem and explain the options available. And I've promised to throw them into Mt. Doom if they don't Evil or Very Mad

Thanks guys! I thought from Cakewalk's description, I would have to upload them to the web and then link to them, or at least refer to them in a URL, just wanted to make sure. Guess I'll have to set up my personal web space now. Kinda been putting it off, but this is the perfect opportunity to learn something new!

you ought to try Imaging for Windows....Impossible!!!! I got everthing down to 6K and then went to put it into 80 * 80 pixels, and I turned into a pretty obscure flower. I've got better stuff at home, like Corel. Talk about user unfriendly.... Twisted Evil

thanks Cakewalk. I usually get stubborn and obsessed about these things. I've had a digital camera for a long time now, and have played around with the pictures in only a couple applications. Anyone tell you, you are sweet? Wink
