The McDowell Mtn Park people are trying to restrict trail access via the directions above. ( sign posted at Park gate on Grassland side ) Suggest using alternate access from new Dixie Mine TH below.

Take Shea Blvd. to Palisades Blvd.
Take Palisades Blvd. 3 miles to Golden Eagle Blvd.
West on Golden Eagle Blvd 3 miles to TH (dirt parking area)

Then Follow Dixie Mine trail a couple miles to fire/utility 4x4 road.
Finally follow fire/utility 4x4 road a couple miles to summit.

Note: 9+ mile (total) hike to almost 4,000 feet with nearly a 2,100 elevation change. The last 1/2 mile is 35 percent grade with the last 1.5 miles being 20 percent.
