Just returned from Paria Canyon on June 13, 2012. It was awesome!! I did an out -n- back from White House. No water!

I mean that at the confluence if you wanted water, one would have to dig a hole and wait...no river water flowing. Both springs south east from the confluence had a very light flow of water. I dug a hole; filtered and boiled and I generally don't worry too much about this here in Arizona.

No water meant lots of loose deep sand. At the confluence, I headed up Buck Skin for a bit but turn around and came back to camp SE of the confluence.

Bugs were not a major issue as there is very little water. Shocked

I'm not surprised there is no water......everything is so dry up there.

Wow! No water huh? I have wonderful memories of playing in the water there.... I bet it makes for a much different hike. I would like to go back some day but I think I would like water again!

Paria is a mud hole this time of year ! And its extra hot here ! ( i live nearby )... I just got back from an awesome hike/swim/rope climbing trek up West Canyon ( off Lake Powell).. it was amazing and we were actually cold and wet most of the time. We climbed out of the canyon and attempted to access the Upper West Canyon but due to excessive heat, and poor directions, and failure to GPS locate we aborted our attempt and reentered the cool lower West Canyon.
I cant wait to go back ! I recogonize that to do this hike ya gotta have a good "ropes man" and advisable someone who has done this hike before. We had all the above ( except that none of us that access Upper West from the top before)
So that said,, ANYBODY with rope experience etc etc.. interested in putting together a trip to lower and possible upper West Canyon ?? perhaps in the fall now as monsoons are rolling in at Lake Powell.
I have connections for boat drop off and pick up..
