Just returned from a trip into Aravaipa. The area is recovering nicely. I noticed that people have been pretty good with "Leave No Trace" camping out there.

I camped up on a nice little sand bench with lots of wood piled up from floods. A deer walked through my camp in the night. One of her prints was in the middle of one of my foot prints. Apparently I forgot and left open a pouch on my backpack with apples and oranges. I mention this because I chose which apple to eat from the apples and oranges I had however, some little critters came in the night and stole them. Evil or Very Mad When I woke and went to get an orange to go w/oatmeal, all my fruit was gone and the pouch was sitting open....little devils.

Water was chilly but not uncomfortably so. Weather was nice and cool. I hiked a little ways up Hell's Half Acre Canyon but got nervous and turned around because Cristina only knew of me being in Aravaipa. I try to be sure I stay where I tell her I am going in the event I get hurt; it would be that much harder to find me if I am some other place?!?

Made it all the way back to Wind Cave Canyon to camp. Unfortunately, I never found the over hang I was looking for along creek left (north) to camp under. It may possibly be further up canyon as last I saw it here with Tim Davis a few years back, before the floods.

Ahhhh, gotta go back again soon...

Sounds nice. Guess it wasn't too chilly out and you had a great time.

Gee you fed the animals... how nice of you Mr. Green

It is pretty in there, no?

I went on Jan. 2nd, for a dayhike, the water was not bad at all! I am planning to go in March for an overnighter! I love that place!

Thinking about heading back to Aravaipa in March too.

Tim--miss hiking with you but glad to hear you and Jenn seem to having a great time in Italy and surrounding neighborhoods. You guys move back Arizona way or want to come out for a visit; a hike would have to be in order Very Happy

I hiked Aravaipa West in early December which was near the peak of autumn color. Here's what it looked like:
