Just wanted to say how much I miss the azhikers forum! Wish we had a similar forum up here in Utah! So, is anybody heading up here this summer?

I was up in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument earlier this year. I took the Beeline Route over to Neon Canyon and the Golden Cathedral, then tried to visit the Zebra Slots, but they were full of water. So, we ended up hiking overland (over the mesatop) to Tunnel Slot, which was also full of water. We saw a lot of really neat Moqui Marbles, though.

Where did you go this summer? Cool

I might be backpacking at Bryce. Do you have information about the trails, and water?

There are some very nice trails in Bryce, even if they aren't very long (as trails go). My favorite is the Peek-a-boo Loop. Down there, you're right in and among the spires, with some really good views. Other favorites are Wall Street (where you can walk up switchbacks between huge, towering walls) and Queen's Garden.

Trail descriptions can be found on the national park website at http://www.nps.gov/brca/planyourvisit/hiking.htm. Maps of the park and trails can be found at http://www.nps.gov/brca/planyourvisit/things2know.htm. I especially recommend the "Bryce Amphitheater Map" jpg if you're planning on hiking in that area. There are trail lengths on the map, but they're kind of hard to read.

What time of year are you planning on going? That will impact whether or not water is available.
