I spent 5 hours with my brother and a friend of his exploring this rarely visited area. I know it would have been tough to find on my own. From Phoenix head east on US 60 to Globe. Continue east on US 70 through San Carlos and Bylas until you reach Ft. Thomas. Turn left by the memorial and continue north on this road. It will turn to a dirt road and then bend towards the west. After quite a few miles you will come to a no trespassing sign and a road that turns back north. Follow the road north, past a ranch line house. The road will pass through a corral area with another ranch house where it bends back east. Follow this for a couple of miles to a fence corner with two green gates. Beside the north gate is a small sign which announces the Fishhooks Wilderness.

There are multiple canyons and mesas. Pottery shards can be seen on some of the slopes. There is also a fun slot that can be used to access one creek. It drops about 60 vertical feet and is easily negotiated without ropes.

Looks like fun George, I'd like to go there some time.

I'd love to go back and I'm pretty sure I could find it again, I left a trail of cliff bar crumbs. Laughing

Hmm-- Interesting. Is this OK for a group or does it have to be a very small group thing ? I'd love to see the area
