Hey Trish -- Cabin loop - will this be a worthwhile backpack ? Never done much on the rim. Wondering if this will be a good GHOTM ? I am thinking 19 miles (makes for a Sat AM / wrap up Sunday kinda hike) that will make it a nice one for many to plug in ? When is the best time for this one ?

I really want to do that Cabin Loop. I almost did it this past summer, I think it was ABC that was offering it, but I just couldn't get away.

I think it is pretty much a summer to early fall backpacking trip. Like June through October or something, correct me if I'm wrong.

I've only done sections of the Cabin Loop.....I've done Fred Haught (from General Spring cabin on FR 300) to Pinchot Cabin, Pinchot Cabin down past Aspen Springs on Houston Brothers and part of the Ubar trail. Ubar trail can get very confusing because it criss-crosses over FR and there are lots of spur trails.

The monsoons are terrible up there in summer so late August-early September would be best or late May/early June. I did do one backpacking trip there in late April and the temps fell to below freezing.

Would be a great three day trip........Leave on Friday AM, come back on Sunday.

I have done it from Houston Brothers and around to Fred Haught Trail, we did it 3 days and 2 nights. It was a great hike! I have done portions of the Ubar and Barbershop. I love the Mogollon Rim, it is so pretty and great place to get away from the heat!

I'm interested. It is very pretty out there. Think the time we went it was in Sep time frame and weather was great!
Too bad your backpack broke Trish when we went last time and didn't get to do what we intended. But a go back always can work.
If this get set up again Ill be watching and hopefully things will work out for me so I can get a chance to do.
