If you talk to the border patrol, yes, if you talk to some of the locals, no. _________________ You can rest when you're dead |

It's been a while since I hiked in a risk area but the standard advice given to us by border patrol was to be off the trails by dark since a lot of illegal activity takes place then. Knowing your love of night hiking I would say don't do it there. Border Patrol probably would say day hiking is the safest and remote camping is probably not advised. _________________ Become a skilled GPS user and it will set you free! |

Planning on setting up camp and exploring the area, just wondering if any problems at the state park. Night hiking along/near the border is not good, border patrol folks are to noisy. Last nocturnal vist one of the folks was a little gassy. |

Patagonia Lake is too noisy, too, although maybe not at this time of year. Favored fishing and party spot for the truly trashy-at-heart. If you walk upstream along the lake and up the creek there, very pretty. |

The Patagonia Lake campground is pretty popular and is also bordered by the lake. Therefore, I doubt if the park campground is along any smuggling routes. However, the adjacent Sonoita Creek State Natural Area might be another story.

Checked the places to camp in Southern AZ and they were full and so were places in Central AZ. So I stayed in Payson and visited the Rim. Some snow in the Payson area and there was snow on the ground from Tonto Creek and up over the Rim. Some places around Forest Lakes snow was at least 4' deep. Got up this morning at 4am and it started snowing shortly after 5am for about an hr. Noteda lot of washs were running on the return home. |
