The old 'Mail Trail' goes from Young to Gisela, which is south of Payson.

The Hell's Gate trail will get you from just north of Young, down through Tonto/Haigler creeks and up the other side - exit ...

Just returned yesterday, 11/27. The road is the best that I have seen it in a while. One of our group got her Chevy Cavalier to the Turkey Creek T/H (aka wilderness boundary).

Well... I usually just throw it as far off the trail as possible.
Oh.. and leather gloves are a big help in handling the catclaw - not those fabric 'gardening' gloves, but real leather.
