This lovely book is a combination of a coffee table book and some serious information. The photos are beautiful and portray some artifacts that unfortunately are rarely seen and never exhibited regarding Anasazi and mainly Basketmaker items mostly uncovered by the Wetherills' in the Grand Gulch area of Utah. Those who know this area, the Cedar Mesa, know it is a wonderful outdoor museum not on par with anything I know of.
This book is about reverse archaeology, on pairing these items and in some cases mummified remains with notes taken and allocating the resources to their proper location. In time and space poor record keeping lost these treasures with their home land. A group of researchers both hiked the canyons, observed the many ruins, dug deep in archives all over, New York City, Chicago, to help conserve the treasures and bring their existance to light. Although many desired to bring them back to Utah the powers of the museums keep them still. Stuck in a dark drawer. I think it is a crime.
The writing style is matter of fact and you have to keep with it but this is a wonderful book and well deserving of anyone's time interested in this subject.
